Mein Netzwerk: Julie Fuhrmann
Julie and I go way back. And yes, I am tiping in my mother tongue. As half American, I always enjoy working with the talented Julie Fuhrmann. Not only because she is easy and pleasant to work with, but also because I can talk to her in english. Julie is from Canada, lives in Switzerland and works as a make-up artist. We have worked many times together on several projects. I like that clients love being glamed up by Julie. Once they’ve worked with her, they only ask for Julie. So if you want to get to know Julie a little bit more, read the following interview with her.
Tell me about yourself and what you do professionally?
I am a Make-Up Artist, and I use make-up to enhance people's natural beauty so that they look and feel their best.
How did you start in this field? Were there any make-up artists or peers that you looked to for guidance?
After my Make-Up Artist training in Canada, I reached out to different photographers and began to build my portfolio. I'm often inspired by the work of other Make-Up Artists such as Hung Vanngo, Lisa Eldridge and Pat McGrath.
Has being a make-up artist always been a dream job for you?
I always knew that I wanted to work in the fashion and beauty industry, but I didn't know what that would look like until later on.
What is it about being a make-up artist you like most?
The people! I have been so fortunate to work with amazing photographers, models, stylists, art directors, editors, designers, and clients.
What is the thing you like the least about working as a make-up artist?
Cleaning brushes!
Where do you get your inspirations for make-up or looks?
Anything can trigger inspiration. It might be an item of clothing I see someone wearing on the street, or the way the light shines on a field of tall grass, or a photo in a magazine, or a post on someone's Instagram feed…..the list can go on. It's often something that catches my attention and gets the ideas flowing. If I started feeling excited about it, I know I should pursue those ideas!
What are you most proud of in your career?
When photographers or clients that I've worked with, keep asking me to work with them again!
Do you have any advice for make-up artists starting in this industry?
Always be kind.
How do you balance your job and free time?
I've learned how to say yes to what lights me up and no to what doesn't, then my job begins to feel more like free time. I think you also explain it quite well in this blog post of yours:

If you could do the make-up of anyone in the world who would it be?
Marie Forleo, I think she'd be a lot of fun to work with.
Is there one thing you would like to accomplish in your life?
I am happy and grateful for all that I've been able to experience so far. But of course, I would always be up for working on another project with you!
Thank you Julie! I’m always happy to work with you.
